01.29Korean Visitors Keep Busy
Eleven students visiting from Korea Nazarene University are keeping busy with classes, concerts, field trips, and developing lifelong relationships. The students and their faculty advisor, Dr. Park, enjoyed a luncheon recently, hosted by NNU President Dr. David Alexander. He welcomed them to the University and gifted each of them with an NNU backpack containing an NNU Sweatshirt. The gift was particularly appropriate with recent daytime temperatures in Nampa below freezing.
The Korean group has also toured recreation sites, businesses, and Idaho points of interest. The students enjoyed skiing at Bogus Basin and gathering for a group photo (below). They also participated in the site visit of the Amalgamated Sugar factory (reported in the blog on January 15), observing an American agricultural production facility. Some of the Koreans attended the recent performance of the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra at the Brandt Center, featuring the Boise Master Chorale in a special production of The Passion of Joan of Arc. The Cornerstone class taught by Dr. Gary Waller included a field trip to the Snake River Birds of Prey
National Conservation Area south of Boise. The KNU students further fill their time with classes in Principles of Management and Business Communication, and interacting with NNU students in the dorm, chapel and across campus.
Dr. Karen Jones has coordinated arrangements for the KNU entourage, and notes, “Having the KNU students on campus provides them an opportunity to learn American culture, as well as making friends with NNU students. In turn, the NNU students can learn about Korean customs, taste Korean food prepared by the KNU students, and consider a cross-cultural exchange at KNU.”
