Smaller class sizes allow students to feel more comfortable asking questions and participating in discussions. Common stressors, like public speaking, are virtually eliminated in a classroom full of familiar faces. Smaller class sizes also provide professors with the opportunity to get to know each of their students by name.
2. More opportunity for one-on-one contact with your professors
Attending a school with fewer students means there is more time you can spend individually with your professors. Not only do you receive better advising at smaller universities, but you create strong relationships with professors that last beyond your collegiate career. This can also be useful when seeking out letters of recommendation for job opportunities if your professors know who you are on a more personal level.
3. A strong community
When you attend a small university, you will quickly begin to recognize almost every face on campus. People are always willing to help each other and push one another toward success. Students that attend smaller universities often say they love their school for its acceptance of everyone into a greater community. 1 small university = 1 really big family.
4. Flexible curriculums
Smaller universities are often able to make adjustments to their curriculums on a case-by-case basis. In other words, a smaller college will be more willing to make adjustments based on your individual interests and passions. This flexibility goes so far as to even custom design majors for students who don’t feel they fit into a major the university already offers.
5. You will feel like you count
You are not just a number at a small university. You matter to your classmates, professors, advisors, deans, etc. Smaller universities will recognize your individual, unique talents and encourage you to explore and pursue them. Not only will they guide you in the direction of success, but they will cheer you on as you go.
