The BS Engineering Program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org. ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc.) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that is the internationally recognized accreditor of college and university programs, specializing in the disciplines of applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.
NNU has a 60-year history of providing a highest-quality engineering physics education, started in 1955 by Manhattan Project scientist Dr. Gilbert Ford. The department has over 350 alumni working in science and engineering fields around the globe. The NNU Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) program began in 2010. It is a multidisciplinary program focusing on broad engineering fundamentals and liberal arts, and includes a choice of concentrations in several engineering fields.
John Lonai, a 2015 NNU graduate who is an engineer at ON Semiconductor, says, “The NNU program has been well established and is doing a phenomenal job training its students to think critically as real engineers, including a humanitarian and ethical base.”
ABET allows university programs to better reflect current and future industry needs by guiding these programs through a continuous quality improvement process. Graduates from an ABET-accredited program have a solid educational foundation and are capable of leading the way in innovation, emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public. They are also eligible to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam prior to graduation as the first step on the way to licensure as a Professional Engineer.
