Financial Aid Basics

Do I qualify for financial aid?

To be considered for federal financial aid, complete the FAFSA application. Include NNU’s school code 001624 so your application is shared with us.

  • Aid eligibility is based on your Student Aid Index (SAI)
  • Pell Grants are available for undergraduate students only (not graduate programs), if federal requirements are met
  • Aid is based on enrollment:
    • Full-time (12+ credits) = maximum eligibility
    • Half-time (6 credits) = partial eligibility
    • Less than half-time = limited options
How is aid distributed?

Financial aid is awarded the first day of class, typically at the beginning of every semester.

Is this degree impacted by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB)?
How do federal student loans work?
  • Subsidized Loans
    • No interest accrues while you’re in school
  • Unsubsidized Loans
    • Interest begins accruing immediately

If you’ve taken out federal loans before, they may pause while you’re enrolled again. (Private loans may vary.)

If I have kids in college, does that impact my financial aid package?

Having kids in college and receiving aid should not impact your own financial aid.

What is the maximum I can borrow in federal loans for my bachelor's degree?

Visit the Federal Student Aid website for current federal loan limits.

Where can I find and compare Private Loans?

If you’re exploring private loan options:

  • Compare lenders through ELMSelect; Elmselect allows you to view and compare private loans without pulling your credit score
  • Review interest rates (fixed vs. variable), compare fees and penalties, repayment flexibility and protections before choosing

Optional: Quick Comparison Checklist

When reviewing any private loan, answer yes/no:

  • Fixed rate option available?
  • No origination or prepayment fees?
  • Hardship forbearance clearly defined?
  • Cosigner release offered?
  • Transparent, reputable servicer?

If 3 or more answers are “no,” keep looking.
