Faculty in Philosophy 

 

College of Theology and Christian Ministries
The College of Theology and Christian Ministries at Northwest Nazarene University has a respected tradition of service to the institution, the denomination, and the communities of southwest Idaho. The College consists of the following areas:

 

  • The undergraduate Department of Philosophy and Religion (which services the general education program of the University and offers several academic majors: Biblical Studies, Christian Ministry, Intercultural Ministries, Philosophy, Philosophy/Religion, Youth Ministries, and Worship Arts), and
  • The Graduate School of Theology (which offers fully online Master of Divinity and Master of Arts degrees in Spiritual Formation; Youth, Children, and Family Ministries; Pastoral Ministry; and Missional Leadership), which is accredited by The Association of Theological Schools (in addition to NWCCU).

 

The College presently consists of ten full-time faculty members who are actively engaged in both academic research and church ministry.

 

Position Description
The faculty position in Philosophy includes courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as courses in the undergraduate general education curriculum. Such courses include both face-to-face and online modalities (reflecting the dimensions of the College’s curricula), along with academic advising and other faculty responsibilities  within the University and College. Since the University and College seek to reflect the cultural and ethnic diversity of the body of Christ in its faculty, staff, administration, and students, women and persons of diverse ethnicities are especially encouraged to apply. This is a full-time, tenure-track 9-month position. This position begins in Fall 2024.

 

Essential Functions

  • Teach courses in the discipline of philosophy at the undergraduate level as assigned
  • Teach courses in the discipline of philosophy at the graduate level (online) as assigned
  • Serve as academic advisor to students as assigned
  • Mentor a variety of students (both within the broader Christian liberal arts university setting and within the
  • department)
  • Collaborate with College of Theology and Christian Ministries (CTCM) faculty in processes of assessment,
  • accreditation, and student recruitment/retention
  • Serve on university committees as assigned
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Ph.D. in Philosophy or other related field (ABD will be considered)
  • Understanding of teaching ministry as a Christian vocation
  • Ability to articulate an understanding of the place of philosophy within theological education
  • The University and College require that all candidates and CTCM faculty approach theology from a Wesleyan theological perspective, be in agreement with the mission and doctrines of the Church of the Nazarene, agree to live within the mission and lifestyle values of NNU, be willing to help advance the mission and vision of the University, and be active participants in the Church of the Nazarene

 

Preferred

  • Five years of experience in teaching at the university level
  • Fluency or abilities to speak/write in Spanish

 

Compensation

Salary will be determined by the educational background and experience.
