Peter Stempe

Oboe Instructor

Biography: Peter Stempe graduated from California State University, Fresno, with a Music Performance degree, followed by a stint in Berlin with the 298th Army Band, as oboist. On his return to the United States, he earned a master’s degree in Oboe Performance at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. He studied with Russell Howland, Bert Lucarelli and Lothar Koch. Mr. Stempe has taught at Keene State College in New Hampshire, Wesleyan University in Connecticut, Tulane University and the College of Idaho. Currently, he teaches at Northwest Nazarene University. He has been a member of the Hartford Symphony, the Kansas City Philharmonic and the New Orleans Symphony. He was the Principal Oboe of the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra from 1981 to 2018. Mr. Stempe was Principal Oboe of the Sunriver Music Festival for 39 years, Topeka’s Sunflower Music Festival, and Massachusetts Buzzard’s Bay MusicFest.
