Amy Ackley
Assistant Professor of Graduate Education
Biography: Dr. Amy Ackley has been a professional educator since 2001. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership/Administration, and an M.Ed. in Curriculum, Instruction, and Innovation. As an educational leader, Dr. Ackley strongly advocates creating dynamic, student-centered learning environments through innovative educational practices. As co-author and creator of the H.A.C.K. Model of Innovative Instruction, she offers a transformative, research-based approach to instructional design, empowering K-12 and Higher Education educators to integrate inventive teaching practices and technology, fostering engaging and effective classroom experiences.
Dr. Ackley joined Northwest Nazarene University in 2014 as a Faculty of Innovation and now serves as a full-time faculty member in the Graduate Education Department, directing the Curriculum, Instruction, and Innovation programs and the Organizational Leadership & Development program. She also contributes to NNU’s research initiatives as a doctoral committee chair, committee member, and member of the Institutional Review Board. Beyond her faculty duties, Dr. Ackley consults with schools and districts, providing professional development to support instructional change and instructional coaching. Her work helps educators cultivate responsive learning environments that meet the diverse needs of today’s students, preparing them for success in a rapidly evolving world.
What is your favorite thing about working at NNU? “My favorite thing about working at NNU? The students, of course! I love seeing their growth and enthusiasm, especially in an environment where Christ is at the center of all we do. The NNU community is filled with incredible, supportive people who share a commitment to faith and learning, making it a truly special place to teach and serve.”
Share a few facts about your specific area(s) of expertise that you bring to the classroom: I bring a passion for connecting with students and fostering research-based teaching practices to every class I lead. With expertise in educational leadership, curriculum design, technology integration, and organizational leadership, I help future educators and administrators create dynamic, student-centered learning environments. I emphasize to educators the importance of awareness and responsiveness to diverse learners, empowering them to become inclusive, inspiring leaders in their classrooms and communities.
Share a few pieces of information that represent your teaching experience and why you love working with students: As a college professor with a background in K-12 education, I strongly believe that all students can thrive and succeed in an effective educational climate. My leadership and educational approaches are rooted in empathy, compassion, and a growth mindset, nurturing a learning environment where students feel valued and empowered. I believe teaching and learning is a two-way street—I learn as much from my students as they do from me, as each brings unique perspectives and experiences to each class. For me, relationships matter deeply; fostering genuine connections is essential to inspiring future educators who are committed to continuous learning and making a meaningful difference in the lives of students.
