Shane Nelson
Biography: Shane Nelson begins his second year as part of the NNU Sports Medicine Staff for the 2024-25 season.
Nelson currently works with NNU men’s soccer, baseball, and the sprints squad of track & field.
Prior to joining the Nighthawks, Nelson served as the head athletic trainer for the Boise Hawks Professional Baseball Club for the ’21-‘23 seasons.
Nelson moved to Boise in 2019 when he accepted a role as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Boise State University. He oversaw the newly formed baseball program in its inaugural season until the program was cut in the summer of 2020.
Nelson began his athletic training career working within the Chicago Cubs organization. He was a part of the organization during the 2016 World Series Championship, at the time serving as the Head Athletic Trainer for the AAA Iowa Cubs. Nelson was selected to be an Athletic Trainer in the 2016 Arizona Fall League for the Mesa Solar Sox, who won the league championship.
Nelson graduated from Central College with a BA in Athletic Training and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Kinesiology from Boise State University. He is a board certified and licensed athletic trainer and has completed advanced training in numerous manual therapy and clinical evaluation courses.
Nelson resides in Boise with his wife Jacquelyn and daughter Lilienne.
