Northwest Nazarene University is excited to introduce Digital Media as a new major beginning Fall 2019.

Digital Media will be an interdisciplinary degree geared toward giving students a broad platform for the ever-changing environment of media communication. The core requirements build a strong foundation of visual communication with areas of emphasis in Audio Engineering, Graphic Design, Marketing, Storytelling, Video and film, and Web Development.

This major will be administered by the Department of Art & Design and work closely with the Departments of Business; Communication Studies; Language, Literature, and Cultural Studies; Mathematics and Computer Science; and Music.

“This degree is focused on digital storytelling,” said Professor and Chair of the Art & Design department, Mike Bartlett. “We built a strong foundation for students to be proficient with digital communication and we designed it to fit all of the digital communication jobs at so many companies today.”

In today’s ever-changing technological world there is a huge demand for skilled individuals to be able to create and edit information through a variety of media platforms. This major will prepare students to respond to this demand. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, media and communication jobs are expected to grow 6% by 2026.

NNU’s Digital Media program will develop students’ skills in web, video, audio, design and writing. By pursuing a career with this degree, job opportunities may be employment as a video editor, copywriter, social media manager, digital artist and content producer.
