On September 16, 2021, Northwest Nazarene University honored Steve and Betty Hill and the Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation at their annual President’s Reception. These honorees have been instrumental partners with NNU for several decades.
“Our community partners have such a significant and lasting impact in helping us intentionally elevate the work we are able to do at NNU,” said NNU President Joel Pearsall. “Through their incredible generosity, the Hills and the Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation have played key roles in helping us pursue our mission of providing a transformative educational experience that prepares our students to change the world for good.”
Steve and Betty Hill were named the 2021 Eugene Emerson Award recipients for their partnership in over 25 projects around campus through Hill Construction for over two decades. Steve Hill also served on the NNU Foundation Board for 20 years, and is now a Director Emeritus. The Eugene Emerson Award was established by NNU in 1985 to acknowledge the spirit of cooperation that exists between the local community and the University. This award recognizes and honors individuals and organizations who are committed to partnering with NNU to create a strong unity that exists for the betterment of the surrounding Boise Valley.
The Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation was also honored for their 50 years of generosity. During this time, they have donated over $8.6 million to NNU, with $7.6 million dedicated to student scholarships.
