Each issue of the Messenger, we provide a profile for one NNU faculty member, one staff member, one undergraduate student and one graduate student. Meet Leon Niessen, our graduate student profile for Summer 2023.

MAJOR: MBA

FUTURE PLANS: Working as an independent sales agent in the textile industry

GRAD YEAR: Summer 2023

HOMETOWN: Aachen, Germany

FUN FACT ABOUT YOU: I did not know anything about Idaho, let alone Nampa, before I first came here from Germany in 2018.

FAVORITE NNU MEMORY: The undergraduate ceremony. In Germany, we do not hold such ceremonies, so making this experience of walking and celebrating with friends and family was something I will never forget.

SOMETHING VALUABLE YOU LEARNED AT NNU: Things do not always go your way. Throughout my five years on the men’s soccer team, I faced a lot of struggles in terms of injuries and not being able to compete in the sport I love. However, teammates, coaches and trainers have always supported me and helped me overcome these struggles and helped me learn new perspectives that I would not have otherwise.

PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT FROM YOUR TIME AT NNU: Winning the GNAC Men’s Soccer Championship.

WHY YOU CHOSE CHRISTIAN HIGHER EDUCATION: Coming from a German background where schools are public and have no relation to any religion, it was great to have the opportunity to find a school that enabled me to combine education and my faith.

HOW DOES NNU HELP CREATE HABITS OF HEART, SOUL, MIND AND STRENGTH? NNU helps its students create habits of heart, soul, mind and strength by providing a caring educational environment that allows students to flourish as a student and as a person. Those habits not only are fundamental for your student-life but they will benefit you in your professional career as well.
