SO YOU COMMITTED… NOW WHAT?

Jul 1, 2026 | Blog

There’s a moment that hits sometime after you’ve committed to a college, maybe it’s right after high school graduation announcements go out, or when someone asks where you’re headed next fall for the tenth time, and it feels like you should have everything figured out by now.

But if you don’t? You’re not behind. You’re just a normal senior getting ready to graduate from high school.

Here’s the part people don’t always talk about: deciding where to go to college doesn’t magically make everything feel settled. In fact, it can open up a whole new set of emotions.

As graduation approaches, you might be feeling completely unmotivated. That’s real! After months (or years) of working toward graduation, it might be hard to care about one more assignment or test. Give yourself some grace; but also remember, finishing strong isn’t about perfection. And it’s not about giving up. It’s about finishing well.

At the same time, there’s often this quiet question in the background: “Did I choose the right college?” Even if you love the school you picked, it’s normal to wonder. When friends choose different paths, or people start offering opinions you didn’t ask for, doubt can creep in. Just know that there isn’t one perfect choice; there are a lot of good ones. You chose a place for a reason, and that reason still matters.

Then there’s the bigger feeling you might not have words for yet: the unknown.

College will mean new routines, new people and probably a level of independence you haven’t experienced before. That’s exciting, but it can also be intimidating. Questions like “Will I find my people?” “Will I fit in?” “Will I be able to handle it?” don’t make you unprepared. They mean you understand that this next step actually matters.

And while all of that is going on internally, life around you is shifting too.

Friend groups are changing. People are making plans that don’t always include everyone. There’s this pressure to soak up every “last” moment, last game, last hangout, last late-night drive, and somehow make it all meaningful. But trying to force every “last” moment to be unforgettable can make it feel… heavy.

Here’s the truth: not every moment has to be perfect to matter. Some of the most meaningful parts of this season are the simple, ordinary ones.

If you’re feeling a mix of excitement, doubt, nostalgia and burnout all at once, that’s not something to fix. It’s something to recognize. You’re in the middle of a transition, and transitions are rarely clean or easy.

At Northwest Nazarene University, we see this season for what it is. It’s not just about getting you to move-in day, it’s about helping you walk through everything that comes before it, too. That’s part of what we mean when we say we do college different.

We’re not expecting you to show up in the fall with everything figured out. We’re ready to meet you where you are—questions, uncertainty, excitement and all—and help you take the next step forward with confidence.

So if this season feels a little messy, a little emotional or a little unclear… you’re doing it right.

You’re not behind. You’re just on the way.
