MICRON PARTNERS WITH NNU CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND ATHLETICS TO EXPLORE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENT ATHLETES

NNU student-athletes had the unique opportunity to connect with representatives from Micron Technology during a special career event held on Monday, Feb. 17. Nearly 75 student-athletes attended the session, where Micron leaders shared insights about career opportunities within the company, particularly for non-engineering majors.

The event was sparked by Micron’s positive experience with NNU students at the Fall Internship & Career Fair, leading the company to express interest in engaging specifically with student-athletes. Recognizing the leadership, discipline and teamwork that student-athletes bring to the workplace, Micron representatives highlighted roles in non-technical production and operations that offer strong career growth potential.

“Because most non-technical students don’t immediately think of Micron as a potential employer, this event was an important opportunity to introduce them to who Micron is, what they do and how their unique skillsets align with careers at the company,” said Chenoa Woods, NNU’s Director of Career Development. “It was exciting to hear Micron reinforcing the same message we share with students—the importance of being able to articulate the ‘soft skills’ they develop throughout their NNU academic and extracurricular experiences.”

With the construction of its new $15 billion facility in Boise, Micron is expanding its workforce and looking for individuals with strong communication and leadership skills. The event underscored the growing trend of skills-based hiring, reinforcing how qualities developed through collegiate athletics—such as teamwork, adaptability and time management—are valuable in today’s job market.

Student-athletes attend a meeting with Micron to learn about career opportunities

Following the presentation, several student-athletes stayed to network with Micron representatives about potential internship and employment opportunities. Students interested in connecting with Micron and other employers will have another opportunity on Feb. 25 at NNU’s Spring Career & Summer Jobs Fair.

As Micron’s presence in the Boise Valley grows, NNU looks forward to further strengthening its partnership with the company, helping students connect their education and experiences to meaningful careers.
