Judy L. Marlett

Dean, College of Arts & Humanities; Professor of Music

Biography: Dr. Judy Marlett is in her twenty-seventh year at Northwest Nazarene University where she serves as Dean of the College of Arts & Humanities and Professor of Choral and Vocal Studies. She holds a Doctor of Arts in Music degree with an emphasis in voice performance and choral conducting from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Prior degrees from Ithaca College and Roberts Wesleyan College include emphasis in choral conducting, voice performance, and music education. She has worked with Metropolitan Opera coach, Nico Castel, and Rutgers University Opera Director Emeritus, Pamela Gilmore among others. Marlett performed in the world premier of Debra Lynn’s, A Family Portrait, with grammy-award-winning baritone, Daniel Belcher. The oratorio is a work for mezzo and baritone, soloists, choir, and orchestra with a libretto compiled by Lynn from letters written by Marlett’s ancestors and American folk songs. She sang in the New York debut of A Family Portrait at Carnegie Hall in May 2022. Her directing credits at NNU include: Fiddler on the Roof, Annie Get Your Gun, Oklahoma, The Impresario, Little Red Riding Hood, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Suor Angelica, and The Old Maid and the Thief as well as many opera scenes.
