Dr. Judy Marlett is in her twenty-fifth year at Northwest Nazarene University where she serves as Dean of the College of Art & Humanities and Professor of Choral and Vocal Studies. She teaches applied voice, vocal pedagogy, diction for singers, and opera workshop. She currently directs Northwest Nazarene University’s Women’s Choir, Bella Voce, although she has directed all of NNU’s choirs at one time or another during her tenure at NNU. Her ensembles have performed throughout the Northwest, and have toured England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Germany and Italy. Judy holds a Doctor of Arts in Music degree with an emphasis in voice performance and choral conducting from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Prior degrees from Ithaca College and Roberts Wesleyan College include emphases in choral conducting, voice performance, and music education. Before moving to Nampa, Dr. Marlett held teaching positions in rural and urban school districts in New York. She has worked with Metropolitan Opera coach, Nico Castel, and Rutgers University Opera Director, Pamela Gilmore. Dr. Marlett has studied conducting under the tutelage of maestro Douglas Amman. Dr. Marlett is in demand as a guest conductor and clinician for various choral festivals, and voice master classes. Marlett performed in the world premier of Debra Lynn’s, A Family Portrait, with grammy-award-winning baritone, Daniel Belcher. The oratorio is a work for mezzo and baritone, soloists, choir, and orchestra with a libretto compiled by Lynn from letters written by Marlett’s ancestors and American folk songs. She is married to Brian and they reside in Caldwell with their two sons, Gordon and Graydon.
