NNU HOSTS JAZZ FESTIVAL CULMINATING CONCERT FEATURING GUEST ARTISTS AND THE BOISE MODERN JAZZ ORCHESTRA

Mar 17, 2026 | News

The music department at Northwest Nazarene University will present the culminating concert of its annual jazz festival on Friday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Brandt Center on the NNU campus.

The concert will feature the NNU Jazz Band alongside the Boise Modern Jazz Orchestra in an evening celebrating big band jazz.

The performance concludes a two-day jazz festival hosted by NNU on Thursday and Friday, which brings together student musicians from more than 20 schools from across the Treasure Valley. Throughout the festival, participating students work with professional jazz artists, receive feedback and on-stage clinics designed to support and inspire the next generation of jazz musicians.

Serving as this year’s guest clinicians are three distinguished jazz artists who will also be featured as soloists during the concert:

  • Eric Richards – trombonist and composer
  • Gary Gemberling – trumpet
  • Ben Nichols – saxophone and composer

The Friday evening concert provides an opportunity for the broader community to hear them perform alongside NNU students and members of the Boise Modern Jazz Orchestra. A special thanks to the Dan Lucas Memorial Fund for supporting the event.

“This festival is one of our favorite opportunities each year to support jazz programs in the area,” said John Dally. “It’s our desire to present a culminating concert that inspires students and audience alike.”
