May is Mental Health Awareness Month!
Chandra Salisbury, MS, LCPC and Assistant Clinical professor within NNU’s Counselor Education Department, has some mental health tips—because your mental health matters!
1. Give yourself time for social activity:
Don’t forget to have some fun! Make sure you are spending time with friends and building relationships.
2. Be kind to your body:
When we get stressed, we forget about our physical needs. Make sure to rest, eat healthy nutrients, and get fresh air.
3. Prioritize your spiritual life:
Leave space to pray, meditate and spend time in nature. Ask yourself: Do I have purpose in life? Do I ask deeper questions?
4. Engage your mind:
Stimulating your mind can be a helpful practice. Reading books, watching movies that inspire you and having stimulating conversations can help.
5. Allow space for your emotions:
Working on emotional coping skills can help improve mental health. Participate in things that fill your bucket and surround yourself with people who will listen when you need to talk.
