Northwest Nazarene University is excited to announce the expansion of its choral program with the addition of two new choral ensembles beginning in Fall 2026: Chamber Singers and NNU Frequency. These ensembles represent an exciting step forward in the continued growth of the NNU Music Department and reflect the University’s commitment to providing exceptional musical opportunities for the next generation of students.
“Music continues to be a vital part of the NNU experience, and we are excited to expand the options available to our students,” said Dr. John Dally, Chair of the Music Department. “These new ensembles allow us to honor our rich choral traditions while creating opportunities that connect with today’s students and the future of vocal music.”
NNU Chamber Singers
NNU Chamber Singers will serve as the University’s premier mixed-voice chamber ensemble. Comprised of 16–24 auditioned singers, the ensemble will perform a diverse repertoire spanning from Baroque masterworks to contemporary chamber choral literature, including both a cappella and accompanied works.
Designed for students seeking a high level of musical challenge and artistic growth, Chamber Singers will emphasize individual preparation, collaborative musicianship and expressive performance. The ensemble will be directed by Professor Ron Curtis, Director of Choral Activities.
NNU Frequency
NNU Frequency marks the next chapter of NNU’s contemporary vocal ensemble tradition. Building upon the legacy of the Northwesterners, which has been a part of NNU’s choral history for more than 50 years, Frequency will continue to celebrate vocal jazz while expanding its repertoire to include contemporary a cappella music and innovative vocal performance.
The Northwesterners name carries a significant legacy within the NNU community. The name is being paused and held dearly with the hope of honoring and revisiting that name when the time is right.
The ensemble will be led by Corrina Steinbach, who brings more than 20 years of experience as a choral educator, vocal jazz specialist and leader within Idaho’s choral community. “I am excited to welcome Corrina to NNU,” said Professor Ron Curtis. “She brings tremendous experience, a passion for vocal music and a heart for students. I know she will be a great addition to our program.”
Investing in the Future of NNU Music
The expansion of the choral program reflects NNU’s continued investment in student opportunities, artistic excellence and recruitment. As prospective students seek meaningful ways to connect through music, the addition of diverse ensemble experiences provides more pathways for singers to find their place at NNU.
“Recruitment is an important part of the future of our department,” Dally said. “We want students to see NNU as a place where they can grow as musicians, build community and use their gifts to serve.”
Together, University Choir, Chamber Singers, Bella Voce and NNU Frequency provide students with a wide range of choral experiences.
“These changes are about growth,” Dally added. “We are building on the strong foundation that generations of NNU/NNC musicians have created while preparing for the students who will shape the future of our program.”
The NNU Music Department looks forward to welcoming new and returning students into these expanded opportunities and continuing to build a vibrant community of musicians at Northwest Nazarene University.
