Every Fall 2021 NNU student, taking at least 1 credit, is being issued a General Grant of $150.00 in HEERF funds. Students can sign for these funds by accessing the NNU Student Portal and direct how the HEERF funds should be issued.

The federal government directed universities to prioritize students with exceptional financial need. NNU wants to provide economic relief quickly to students who may have experienced additional expenses and/or a loss of income due to COVID-19. Therefore, we have used the HEERF III emergency aid funds to provide a standard relief grant to students who meet eligibility criteria, based on the student’s FAFSA information and other financial factors.

The specific criteria for the NNU Federal Emergency Relief Fund Standard Block Grant awarded in Fall 2021 is as follows:

• Undergraduate or graduate student in a degree program, enrolled in at least 1 credit for Fall 2021 semester
• Meet basic eligibility requirements for federal aid under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965
• A 2021-22 FAFSA on record with NNU’s Financial Aid Office
• Demonstrated financial need

This grant will be available to students who have financial need not identified the FAFSA, or for students who have not previously filed a FAFSA. Students who do not meet the awarding criteria for the Federal Relief Fund III standard grant, but who have incurred substantial financial hardship due to COVID-19, may file an application for special consideration. A portion of the HEERF III funds are being directed to assist these students. To apply for special consideration, you may access the Special Consideration Application within the NNU student portal. In certain circumstances, students may be asked to file the FAFSA.

The specific criteria for the NNU Federal Emergency Relief Fund Standard Block Grant awarded in Fall 2021 is as follows:

• Undergraduate or graduate student in a degree program, enrolled in at least 1 credit for Fall 2021 semester
• Meet basic eligibility requirements for federal aid under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965
• A 2021-22 FAFSA on record with NNU’s Financial Aid Office
• Demonstrated financial need

General Grants and Standard Block Grants will be disbursed during the fall (2021) and spring (2022) semesters. Special Consideration Fund awards will be disbursed when applications are approved throughout the school year, until funds have been depleted. Recipients are notified via a message to their NNU email account if awarded HEERF III relief funds. Students will choose between three methods of disbursement:

• Apply the funds to their student account toward any current or future charges
• Have the funds direct deposited into a bank account
• Have a check issued and sent to the mailing address on file (campus or otherwise)

• Undergraduate or graduate student in a degree program, enrolled in at least 1 credit for Fall 2021 semester

These funds are meant to help students pay expenses for tuition, technology, health care, child care, course materials, rent, food, moving or other expenses incurred during the pandemic. Students are highly encouraged to apply these funds to education-related expenses. NNU will provide the awardee with the option of applying their award toward any unpaid account balance. Students may choose this option or they may elect to have the funds directly issued.

Students who did not meet the basic eligibility criteria for the standard grant as described above and/or did not demonstrate exceptional financial need are not eligible for federal HEERF Standard Block grants.

• Have a check issued and sent to the mailing address on file (campus or otherwise)

The HEERF III Special Consideration Grant may be available to undocumented students who demonstrate substantial need. Please access the HEERF Special Consideration Application, via the NNU student portal to apply for consideration.

The HEERF III Special Consideration Grant may be available to international students who demonstrate substantial need. 

The following criteria are will be considered for award eligibility for a NNU Federal Relief Fund Standard Block Grant:

• Student has unmet financial need
• Student has a low Expected Family Contribution as shown on the 2021-22 FAFSA report
• Student has a 2021-22 FAFSA report on file with the NNU Financial Aid Office
