ESL ENDORSEMENT
ESL & BILINGUAL EDUCATION
Educator Endorsement Programs
Gain an understanding of the unique needs of learners of English as a new language.
Through the courses offered in these programs, you can enhance your knowledge and expertise for teaching students learning English as a new language. The programs focus on how to best meet both the educational and emotional needs of this unique population of students. Instructors for the program are all experienced master educators with a passion for teaching English language learners.


ENDORSEMENT REQUIREMENTS
Credits and Courses: 20 credits are required to earn an ESL and/or a Bilingual Education Endorsement
1. Valid Idaho Teaching Certificate
2. 20 credits are required to earn an ESL and/or a Bilingual Education Endorsement
- ESL: Theory & Foundations of Language Acquisition (2 credits)
- ESL: Curriculum and Instruction (2 credits)
- ESL: Philosophical & Legal Foundations (2 credits)
- ESL: Assessment and Identification (2 credits)
- ESL: Cultural Diversity (2 credits)
- ESL: Applied Linguistics (2 credits)
- Foreign Language (ESL Endorsement: 3-4 lower division credits; Bilingual Education Endorsement: 6 upper division credits)
- ESL Elective Credit (1-2 credit)
- ESL Methods (2 credits)
- Endorsement Supervision (1 credit)
3. Praxis: 5362 – English to Speakers of Other Languages
4. ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (This test is only required for the Bilingual Education Endorsement.)
Other Teaching Endorsements
For those already certified to teach in Idaho, NNU offers an Endorsement Only program that allows you to add an endorsement for additional subject areas.
These endorsements can only be added to a valid Idaho Teaching Certificate. Other than the ESL/ML Endorsement, all of these are offered through the College of Education at NNU.
