Certificate in Robotics

NNU’s Certificate in Robotics offers certification in robotics through in-class instruction and hands-on experience. Upon successful completion of the program, you will have the opportunity to network with a mentor at Amazon. This 8-week, 2-course series is designed for individuals who are 18 years or older, have experience with at least one computer language and an aptitude in programming. A degree is not required, and those who enjoy tinkering, programming, electronics, building robots and who are interested in specialization are invited to participate.

Plan of Study

To receive a Certificate in Robotics, you will complete the following courses:

  • CP46701 Robotics: Introduction to Python Programming
  • CP46702 Robotics: RoboMaker and Robotics Operating System 2

About the Certificate in Robotics

This course of study is a non-degree certification. Credits are continuing education/professional development offered through NNU’s Center for Professional Development. An application and acceptance to program is required prior to registration.

Robotics: Introduction to Python Programming

Weeks 1 & 2: Introduction to Python
Students learn the basics of Python programming from getting started to objected-oriented programming, I/O and popular libraries like Numpy, Pandas and matplotlib.

Robotics: RoboMaker and Robotics Operating System 2

Weeks 3 – 5: Programming Robotic Simulations
Students learn to use software tools such as RoboMaker and Cloud 9 (in AWS) to create 3D software simulations of robots in a synthetic environment.

Weeks 6 & 7: Introduction to the Robotic Operating System (ROS)
Students learn to program using turtlesim and a live robot using ROS and migrate simulation software from RoboMaker to a live robot.

Week 8: Capstone
Students will program a robot to move independently about a room and identity pictures of individuals by name.
