About the Mathematics and Computer Science Department

Whether you want to work in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity or game programming, NNU has the degree plan for you. NNU students studying computer science have received regional awards, published in peer-reviewed publications, and placed among the top five teams in the nation in the IEEExtreme programming competition. Upon graduation, 100% of our students secure jobs within their field.

The number of jobs in technology related industries like math and computer science are predicted to continue growing. There are already more job opportunities than skilled applicants to take them. This demand means that not only will program graduates land a job—they will likely land a great one. Whether you wish to go straight into the field or advance your education at graduate school, the NNU programs give you the skills you need. NNU’s programs in Math and CS prepare students for their future offering high level of coursework, hands-on opportunities to gain experience, small classes and personal attention by the faculty.

NNU computer science majors are required to complete a senior research project. This requirement has been highly praised by employers of NNU graduates. Graduate John Donaldson who attended the Naval Postgraduate School and now works for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory said, “When I’ve talked to my program managers [at the Naval Postgraduate School] who have worked with NNU students in the past, they like the fact that in our computer science program we are required to produce a senior project and thesis which a lot of other schools don’t require.” Math and computer science faculty are researching as well as maintaining and improving the department’s labs and equipment.
