Culver Hall

Culver Hall

Culver is where our first-year men live. Each wing has its own resident assistant and peer mentor, providing students with a built-in support system for their transition into college life. Each room typically houses two students (individual rooms available for an extra fee) and is equipped with AC/heat, beds and desks. There are shared bathrooms on each wing, laundry facilities in the hall and communal lobbies featuring pool and ping-pong tables, foosball and a snack bar.

Meet the Resident Director

Trevor Johnsen

Resident Director for Culver Hall

Hi! My name is Trevor Johnsen and I am the Resident Director of Culver Hall at Northwest Nazarene University. I graduated from NNU in 2018 with a degree in Sports Management/Recreation & Coaching.

Before coming to NNU, I traveled the country with my family in an RV for a year! We had a blast and look forward to the opportunity to do it again. Prior to that, I spent about 5 years in full-time ministry as a Youth Pastor and Kids Pastor. Additionally, in 2023, I started a business in the real estate industry. Thankfully, I can juggle both my NNU job and Real Estate functions!

At NNU, I serve as a guide, mentor and support system for students living in Culver Hall. I often tell students that I may not be your dad, your mom, brother, mentor or pastor… But you’re going to need one of those things throughout this year, and I can be that for you. As the Resident Director, I live in the dorm alongside students, helping them navigate the transition to college life—academically, socially and spiritually. My role includes overseeing the student RA team, creating opportunities for connection, encouraging healthy habits and fostering a strong sense of belonging.

My favorite part of this job is seeing my first-year boys become first-year men. There is nothing quite like the transformation you get here at NNU.

I’m passionate about helping students feel at home—especially those who are living away from family for the first time. Think of me as a “dorm dad”—here to celebrate your wins, support you during challenges and make sure you always have someone to talk to. You should know that if you live in my dorm, you are a part of my family, and I will forever be in your corner, cheering you on as you dream and succeed.

I am able to lead and love others because of the way that the Lord leads and loves me. If I could make up a spiritual gift, it would be the ability to be fun, goofy and adventurous, all while being connected to Jesus and ready for spiritual conversations about the Lord. God has always shown up for me in the hardest moments of life and the best moments as well. And I love telling people about both!

I chose to work at NNU because I wanted to cultivate the same, if not better, experience than I had at NNU. My time here was perfect! And I want to be part of the people who make NNU different. Anyone can obtain a degree, but what shared experiences do you gain on the way? What makes this place so great is the people that God leads to it. Without the people and without Jesus, it’s just a bunch of old brick buildings.

When I’m not working, I enjoy short walks on the beach, chocolate and coffee 🙂 On top of that, I love to travel with my family! Exploring big cities, camping in the mountains or adventuring to the coast is always a treat for us. Personally, I am a big sports guy! I love to watch it, play it and talk about it. My favorite sports are football and basketball, but I’m pretty much down for any competition!

Overall, I think I’m mediocre at best—it’s my family that you guys HAVE to meet! My wife, Roxanne, is the real MVP. She is a professor at NNU and a Registered Nurse at the local hospitals. She is funny, caring and a rockstar leader. Everything she touches turns to gold. I’m grateful she agreed to live with a bunch of first-year boys!

Accompanying us are Beverly and Mabel. Our greatest creations yet! They are so sweet and kind and will be your best friend if you color with them! They love to hang out in the lobby and eat with everyone at the Dex. We also have two crazy dogs, Brick and Winston. They are pretty cute and will give you lots of laughs and cuddles!

This is us. We don’t always get it right, but we love each other, and we love Jesus with our whole heart!
