Meet the Resident Director

Stacie Knudsen

Resident Director for Sutherland Hall

My name is Stacie Knudsen, and I serve as the Resident Director of Sutherland Hall at Northwest Nazarene University. I’m also a proud NNU alum, having graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology. During my time as a student, I was active in choir and spent three years as the manager for the women’s basketball team.

I’ve been married to my husband, Ross, for 27 years, and we have three wonderful kids: a 26-year-old son who is married, a 20-year-old daughter who is a senior at NNU and a 16-year-old daughter who’s heading into her junior year of high school. We also share our home with two dogs: Mocha, our older, and somewhat grumpy chocolate lab, and Joey, our cuddly and curious Border Collie.

Before returning to NNU, I spent eight years as an administrative assistant and registrar at a local charter school, where I led a front office team and worked closely with students, families and staff. I also bring over a decade of experience in the aquatics field, having served in various roles.

At NNU, I serve in two roles: in addition to being a Resident Director, I also serve as the Student Advocate in Nighthawks Central. This dual role allows me to walk alongside students as they navigate all aspects of university life. Whether that’s understanding financial aid and billing, connecting with campus resources or simply finding a listening ear. As an RD, I live in the dorm and work closely with our Resident Assistant team to foster a welcoming, supportive and connected community.

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is watching students grow—seeing them discover what excites them and helping them feel truly invested in their NNU experience. I’m especially passionate about supporting students who are away from home for the first time. I remember struggling with the transition to college life, so I understand how challenging this transition can be. That’s why I’m here. To celebrate your wins, support you through challenges, and make sure you know you always have someone in your corner.

My faith and family are at the heart of everything I do. My prayer is that my life reflects God’s grace and love to every person I encounter, so they feel seen, valued and cared for.

I came back to NNU two years ago, because when I was a student, I remember getting really frustrated by how much of the college experience wasn’t explained well, and I really wanted to be the person who could bridge the gap and help connect students to the people and resources we have on campus. I’m excited that I get to be that person for you, both in the residence hall and across campus.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me spending time with family and friends, enjoying a good cup of coffee, watching sports or taking the occasional nap on my couch. I love to road trip, so if I’m not in Nampa, you will likely find me either at the Oregon Coast with my feet in the sand and waves or traveling to one of our neighboring states to visit and explore a National Park.
