Biography: Became a full time faculty member at NNU in the fall of 2018. From 2018-2022 also served as the cross country coach and an assistant for the track team. From 2012-2018 I was the head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach at California Baptist University. From 2002-2011 I served NNU as the Associate Head Coach for Cross Country/Track. Starting in 2006 I also joined the KINE faculty as an Assistant Professor.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Eastern Oregon University followed by my Master’s in Teacher Education also from Eastern Oregon University. In 2013 I received my Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Capella University.
At my church I serve in the kid’s ministry as well as the middle school ministry. Primarily teaching 4th and 5th grade students Sunday morning and working with the middle school students on Wednesday nights. I have also been heavily involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for the past 25 years.
What is your favorite thing about working at NNU?: I really enjoy working with my students and the environment NNU provides to do so. Having smaller class sizes I really get to know the students on a more personal level. I also really enjoy the opportunity to help them connect our course content and their major to Christ and the work is preparing them for.
Share a few facts about your specific area(s) of expertise that you bring to the classroom: have over twenty years a a college coach with a high level of success. This enables me to really connect that content in our Kinesiology courses to real world examples. Recently I published my first book titled Cultivating Champions: Servant Coaching Principles for Coaches, Athletes, and Teachers. This book was a direct result of wanting a better book for one of our classes and a student recommending that I write the book I was looking for.
Share a few pieces of information that represent your teaching experience and why you love working with students: Since coming back to NNU in the fall of 2018 I have helped launch new degree programs in Sport Psychology, Sport Communication, Exercise Science and a new minor in Outdoor Recreation and Education. Our students are always sharing what they desire from our department and I love working with them to brainstorm and create new programs that can better meet their needs and the needs of future students.
