Favorite Thing About Working at NNU: The students that I get to teach and mentor.
Share a few facts about your specific area(s) of expertise that you bring to the classroom: I am an inorganic materials chemist, with expertise in the synthesis and characterization of materials. My current research area is the study of zinc oxide nanoparticles that have been capped with biologically active molecules. We are exploring the use of these materials for catalyst, antibiotic and antifungal applications.
Share a few pieces of information that represent your teaching experience and why you love working with students: I teach chemistry classes ranging from General Chemistry to Analytical Chemistry and advanced Thermodynamics, and Inorganic Chemistry and the labs associated with those classes. Beyond the formal classes and labs, I work with students on research projects. These independent research projects allow the students to apply what they are learning in classes and laboratories to solve real-world problems. The students who do research get to travel and present their results at regional and national research conferences.
