Types of Aid

Grants

Grants can come from the federal government, your state government, your college or career school, or a private or nonprofit organization and typically don’t have to be repaid.

  • Federal Pell Grants
    • Federal Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need (based on FAFSA information) and have not yet earned a bachelor’s, graduate or professional degree. To learn more about the Pell Grant, visit the Pell Grant page at studentaid.gov.
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
    • Students who are Pell Grant eligible may also be eligible for the SEOG fund. SEOG is awarded based on financial need and availability of funds.

Loans

Loans can come from the federal government, your state government, your college or career school, or a private or nonprofit organization and do have to be repaid with interest.

  • Federal Student Loans
    • There are several types of federal student loans available for students and usually have more benefits than private loans:
      • Direct Subsidized Loan
      • Direct Unsubsidized Loan
      • Direct PLUS Loans
      • Direct Consolidation Loans
