Northwest Nazarene University has been awarded an A+ grade by the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) for its Teacher Preparation program in Elementary Mathematics—making NNU the only institution in Idaho to receive this top distinction.
This national recognition highlights the strength of NNU’s teacher preparation program in equipping future educators with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively teach elementary math. The rating is based on a thorough review of program materials, including syllabi and assessments, to ensure alignment with best practices in math instruction.
“We are incredibly proud to be recognized for our strong foundation in elementary math education,” said Dr. Lori Sanchez, Dean of the College of Education. “This recognition reflects the deep commitment of our Education Department faculty—especially Professor Michelle Rowley, who led this effort—and the high standards we hold for preparing outstanding teachers in Idaho and beyond.”
The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) is a nonpartisan research and policy organization dedicated to ensuring every child has effective teachers. Their Teacher Prep Review evaluates how well colleges and universities prepare future educators in key content areas. Recognition from NCTQ affirms NNU’s continued excellence in teacher education and its role in supporting the future of Idaho’s classrooms.
