Preparation
-
Students interested in pursuing a Pre-Medical concentration at NNU are encouraged to prepare by taking at least two high school courses in laboratory science and three years of high school mathematics. In planning a college program, you should follow the requirements and recommendations of the particular professional schools to which you anticipate applying for admission. NNU Pre-Medical advisors can assist you in planning your undergraduate coursework.
- The Biology major with a Pre-Medical concentration has been specifically designed for matriculation into pre-professional programs. Those programs all require at least 8 credits of general biology, 8 credits of general chemistry, 8 credits of organic chemistry, 8 credits of college physics, and 7 credits of biochemistry. As electives, you might consider additional courses in chemistry, biological science, mathematics, psychology, and sociology. While NNU’s catalog explicitly lists a Pre-Medical concentration in the Department of Biology, students can also pursue a medical profession with a degree in biochemistry or other fields, if they take the core requirements in the sciences.
