Jennifer Hill

Professor of Education; Secondary Education Coordinator

Biography: Dr. Jennifer Coles Hill has been a professional educator since 1999, both in the United States and South Korea. At the k-12 level, Dr. Hill was an English teacher, school counselor, coach, and program administrator. Now, as a university professor, she teaches secondary literacy and methods courses, and trains pre-service teachers how to work with multilingual learners in the classroom. Dr. Hill’s doctoral research focused on success factors for international students attending college in the United States. She is a regular conference presenter and her publications include articles in the Journal of International Students and a chapter on special education law in the textbook Beginning Your Counseling Career: Graduate Preparation and Beyond. Most recently, Dr. Hill published a book entitled Well Equipped: A Practical Survival Guide for Pastors and Volunteers Who Work with Children and Teens in Church Settings. It provides practical training and advice for workers in the church on the subjects of learning and development, lesson planning, classroom management, and working with a wide variety of special needs populations. Specific focus areas include autism, ADHD, language, culture, refugees, third-culture kids, poverty, trauma, depression, and anxiety. Dr. Hill is passionate about her role in preparing teachers and teacher- education candidates for success in the classroom and creating effective learning experiences for all students.

Favorite Thing About Working at NNU: My career in education has taken me literally all around the world! As an NNU alum, it is a joy and privilege to train the next generation of teachers and open doors of ministry for them both locally and globally.
