Each issue of the Messenger, we provide a profile for one NNU faculty member, one staff member, one undergraduate student and one graduate student. Meet Josh Burkholder, our staff profile for Summer 2024.

PROFESSION: Assistant AD for Communications

HOMETOWN: Warden, Washington

Fun Fact About You: I have multiple second cousins who are Amish.

Favorite NNU Memory So Far: At the end of my first semester on campus in the spring of 2021, I was fortunate enough to get to travel with our baseball team to the DII College World Series in Cary, North Carolina. The whole trip was very memorable and a great way to cap my first season working with our athletic teams.

Proudest Accomplishment From Your Time at NNU: I’m not sure I can point to one specific item, but I am proud of the advances and upgrades that I have been able to bring to the live-streaming productions of our home athletic events over my four years here.

NNU students frequently express that we do college different. How do you believe NNU does college different? I think a lot of it comes down to genuine caring about others. Coaches want their athletes to not just improve athletically while here, but also grow as people. Professors want their students to succeed and get the most out of their studies. Administrators care about the well-being of everyone on campus, from the students to the faculty to the staff. NNU is the fifth college that I have either attended or worked at, and I can legitimately say that it ranks above the others in this camaraderie and genuine care for one another from top to bottom.

How do you see/experience NNU’s motto of “Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God” lived out on campus? I’ll point to one example that I have seen here in the athletic department. The way that I see our coaches relate with student-athletes and talk about faith is impressive and profound. They meet them wherever they are on their faith journey and have the ability to answer the tough questions and be an important resource on so many things off the field or the court.
